Events and happenings from Week 2

During week 2, my teammates and I very much settled into the project work, and the reality that we have a very short time here in Lublin, and a lot to accomplish for this client with the scope we agreed to for our project.  The image below is the high level plan we developed for our team, to keep us all on track, and to manage the expectations of the client.  Don't worry if you can't read it,  all it really says is LOTS TO DO... LITTLE TIME!

Much of this week was consumed with follow up meetings with client stakeholders. We met with the City Organization Department on Monday morning, and the Document Management Department on Monday afternoon.  (no pictures found yet).
On Tuesday we were given a tour of the City Data Center by IT Director and representatives from his staff.
Then headed back to City Hall for a meeting in the big conference room.  Some of our meetings were translated from Polish to English. Pictured at right is our translator, Arek.

Wednesday we headed over to a local University for a service project, unrelated to our project with the City.

We met with a couple of the research assistants who shared with us some of the work they are doing.  This student was working with an eye tracker application, that studies the movement of the eyes.  Calixto from our team, volunteered for a demo. (video coming soon)

Later in the afternoon we met with a group of students and shared our experiences of working for IBM, and the career paths we chose.  The IBM Team answered questions from the students mainly around life after school, entering the workforce, and working for large companies vs small companies.

On our way back from the tour of the Data Center we walked through this beautiful park.  I learned from our client that the park had recently reopened after about a 2 year refurbishing.  The park had previously had a bad problem with birds, so during the refurbishing the City introduced Hawks into the park to control the bird problem.
And as we walked past one of the maintenance buildings in the park, we noticed that the "Hawk service" was paying a visit to check on their hawks.
