Truth be told, I am not a very picky eater (my State of DE teammates back home know this). I had mixed reports from others about what the food would be like in Lublin. The cuisine in Lublin is far beyond anything I had expected. Every place we have visited so far has such a unique ambiance, and every place their own way of making a dish that might sound the same literally translated. A refreshing change from the burger and/or salad routine I was keeping at home.
The pictures below are some of the other dishes from Week 1:
Sausage, potatoes, and beer. Now this is what I thought I would be having for most meals in Poland.
Salmon, Orzo, and broccoli.
Trybunalska Cafe where I ordered the dish above
Breaded pork cutlet with cucumber salad. (Hey Dave E, this dish came this way without having to request the egg :) I actually ordered this dish at the Grand Hotel restaurant where I am staying.
When I am on the road for work back in the states, I often order from the hotel restaurant; you know, its easy. Hilton, Marriott, you need to step up your game!!
This dish on the left I ordered from a lunch buffet. Sausage, dumplings, potatoes, beet root salad. And with it, carrot juice and gazowana, or water "with gas" (sparkling water).
Sea Bass over crushed peas.... mmmm that was really good!!
Ok, you get the picture, I am eating well and I will return home MUCH heavier than when I arrived. Good thing they only charge extra for the luggage. And from all the pictures of food you might be wondering if I am breaking the budget with all these extravagant dishes. The most I have paid for a meal so far is 75ZL, which comes out to just under $20 US. The average price for a meal has been around 40ZL ($10.50 US)
And yes they do have these places here, the McDonald's is right across the street from my hotel, and the KFC and Pizza Hut right across the street from the IBM team's office space. I must confess I visited the McDonald's one night, but only so I could experience ordering the McRoyal... yep, its a cheeseburger. (Ethan and Will, maybe we can try ordering the McRoyal in Winchester and see what happens).
